Belkin Wireless USB

I ordered the product and it arrived in a few days. Installed the program from the supplied CD. Followed all instructions. Plugged it in and it never recognizes the install. Uninstalled and reinstalled, shut down, rebooted, did everything you can think of to try and get it working. Finally, I looked at the actual files that got installed. The CD had drivers for XP and Vista, but no drivers for Windows 7. No wonder it didn't work. After googling, I found the drivers, installed the device and it…

Pros
  • GOLS Certificate
Cons
  • Not as good as it says

I have an N+ router so I thought this would give me the most bandwidth and range. The software didn't work at all on my Vista machine and on my XP machine it worked but didn't connect automatically (I think it was the wireless network manager I have on my ThinkPad). I ran some tests with this device on my XP machine and got a download speed of 20Mbps. Not too bad (but almost like my built in g-wireless gave me 18Mbps). So for comparison, I plugged in my Linksys Wireless-N Dual Band Gaming…

Pros
  • Useful not only for its intended purpose
Cons

smaller than expected for networking products

Device looks "slim". it's easy to install (win7, 64bit - the disk hasn't been used, let win7 download the drivers), it picks up the signal well at close range. The device just didn't have the range I was hoping for. I'm using a Netgear n600 dual band router - it's about 55 meters from my office where the computer is located (HP DV7, Atheros Ar5009 wireless adapter). this Belkin adapter got the same reception as my laptop at best. often the laptop got better. (There is a fairly straight line…

Pros
  • Wide range
Cons
  • Big and chunky

Doesn't maintain a reliable connection and isn't as fast as advertised

I bought this for my Windows 7 desktop PC I'm tired of running the cable from my bedroom router to my living room PC. I have a Linksys e3000 router, which is a premium router. I wanted a wireless USB device that would allow me to connect at 300MB/s. This one fit the bill and was reasonably priced, so I went with it. After downloading the correct drivers from the internet, I was good to go. Unfortunately, I could not connect above 130 MB/s. It looks like this device will only work at full speeds

Works great after 9 hours trying to work around a driver crash

I was almost ready to give up. I tried installing from the software CD, it didn't help. I tried going to the website and using a more recent version. The device was installed and recognized, but a connection could not be established. So I tried uninstalling both version 1 and version 2, thinking maybe I didn't install version 1 and there was a conflict. Suddenly I couldn't fully recover. I tried reinstalling and I always got an error message with a dialog box. I tried googling the problem. I…

The Horror The Horror

In my case it didn't work with Win7 64 bit. I spent 3 hours on the internet looking at my laptop, a whole good day wasted. Followed the instructions, ran the software/driver first, connected, when prompted the LED came on but the machine refused to recognize it, told me to connect it then OK click so i unplugged it and plugged it back in, click "ok" the whole install process went from 0% to complete the install in 1/100th of a second, no file copied the animated sequence, no hard work, went…

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Exchange possible

Works so far in networking products

Works so far: but I just installed this thing. Just take a look. But the main reason I'm commenting at this early stage is to offer an installation tip or two for Windows 7 operating system users: (1) When your Belkin model F5D8055 USB adapter arrives, take a look at the back of the USB Part and Note if it is version 1 or 2. If it is version 2, it may show v.2010. Assuming you have a router but are not connected to the Internet, connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

No Linux support, suitable for XP

This adapter is probably intended for those who are just looking for a cheap adapter that will allow them to quickly connect to the Internet (with a Windows computer). Pros: *Easy setup XP* Price* USB charging dock/cable Cons:* Doesn't work with Linux* I can only get 150Mbps (should be up to 300Mbps) I'm a bit of a power user (also known as a computer engineer ) who builds computers and satellites and does stupid things like dual boot and run Linux.) Aka, I'm pickier. As mentioned above, this…
