This lamp was fine until recently when I noticed that the top of the base seems to be cracking and has a sticky feeling which can be removed by wiping with a sponge or Detergent is not improved. The base is metal and covered with some kind of plastic coating. Having had the same experience with another product, I think the reason is that this plastic has been made biodegradable and it degrades too quickly.

Great lamp! I've gradually switched to LEDs for most of my lights, including LED bulbs. This is definitely one of my favorite lights at the moment.
