Eats Bits Fast Kreg

The essay was great but I learned to look for Dewalt bits. You slow down the drill, wait for it to find a connection to the material, and then speed it up. These Star Kreg tunes need to be heavier. Slow down again, wait for it to find a hole and enter the composite material, and slow it down even more the closer you get to where the bolts are right on the surface of the material. Mostly used Kreg screws which are expensive and then ended up with composite deck screws which had no problems with…

Cons
  • Nothing Here

Paid over a hundred dollars for a Kreg Deck Jig and 700 "compatible" screws. The screw heads were too big for the socket on the JIG, the screws got stuck in the hole and didn't go through, useless! The screws must go freely through the device as a guide. The kit does NOT include a hex screw to attach the depth sleeves to the bits. The drill is bent! The depth sleeve installation template was WRONG. There were less than 700 screws for 700, and I found a few with no inserts! Total failure, do not

Not the only way but probably the best

This Kreg jig is quite amazing. There are some other tools you can also use to screw deck boards from the side vise on top, which is very important. The screws on the top of the board don't look as good as other reviewers claim, which could lead to maintenance issues. The Kreg mount really shines with its ability to help you evenly space the boards when building a deck. The ability to drill/screw at an angle helps secure areas that you wouldn't otherwise be able to attach at 90 degrees - useful

Quality control issues

Of the first 6 screws, 2 were wedged in the metal guides rendering them unusable. I called the company and they said they had quality control issues because the screws were too big and offered to send in new guides and screws. In the meantime, they suggested I take apart a packet of 700 screws to see if any of them would slip through without snagging. The success rate was about 1 in 25 and I didn't want to waste time on it. I used screws on a deck with no rail. A day later another 1,400 screws…

Happy with tensioner not screws

I bought this clamp with 700 painted screws. Jig served its purpose and looks like it will hold up for more projects. The screws did not fit into the metal holes in the bracket. So I had to screw in the screws without tools. Judging by the reviews of the screws, they really have quality control issues. Next time I'll probably use a hole punch and use GRK trim screws since the Kreg screws don't go through the metal pilot holes anyway. Luckily I used about 600 screws and didn't round them off. a…

Beautiful but very moody!

This is not the quality I expected from Kreg Tools. My deck looks great, but it took about 4 times as long to finish. Here are a few things that might help you. 1) The screws are very slightly round. To me they would look better if I kept them out of the sun. 2) Just don't use the template when installing the screw. Move carefully and slowly, and I think you'll be less frustrated and less likely to loosen screws. I had no trouble with the drill, but the screwdriver bit is about 1/2 thicker than

Product is defective, contacted tech support, no response or response

After ordering and receiving this product I was in good faith and last misfortune that I did not open it until I was ready to use it to use, Friday afternoon, to lay my flooring. Upon unpacking, I found that the product has a manufacturing defect that does not allow the screw to enter the pilot hole (the entire purpose of the product). It was my own conscientiousness that led to the laying of the flooring without this tool, i.e. with the help of screws. exceeded $100. I had to buy more…

Good design, poor quality

I'm a big fan of Kreg products in general, but this tool is terrible. There are two main disadvantages. The metal guides for drills and screwdrivers are pressed into cheap plastic. This may not be a major issue other than zero play in the Kreg proprietary deck screw guides and screw heads. The screws get stuck in the guides, and the first time I used one of the guides at a 45 degree angle, the screw got stuck so hard that it twisted the metal guide and broke the plastic piece holding it. The…

Paul Harvey moment [and now for the rest of the story]

Nowhere does it mention that you can ONLY use Kreg reconciliation screws and screwdrivers with this if you use it as intended. That means you have to buy all your screwdrivers and screws from Kreg Tool. Based on the above, and the fact that I've driven thousands of screws, square drives, torquers and others, it would be wise to buy at least one other screwdriver, if not two. . I would be sad if I had a screwdriver in the middle of work. I figured I would have to buy special screws when I found…
