Two studs protrude 5/8" from this ceiling junction box. This may work for some specific ceiling fans or even some lights but not many lights. I do not recommend this box, if you want something standard that will work with most gear I had to saw off two screws to make this box usable but now there is a bare minimum of screw holes in this plastic box to hang my gear, not ideal if something will be demolished. .

This is such a great old work box to replace the fan bracket. The hardest part of this whole process is cutting out the old box.
