Fiction. Will definitely buy again

I was careful with this product. But it seemed like the best option. I couldn't be happier. You need the right tools. There are three screws attaching it to the ceiling joist. It's best to have a power outlet, an extension cord, and a drill or screwdriver. The screws tend to wander before they bite. It's a bit difficult to hold it in place and tighten the screws. I had to abandon the first one and redrill. The rest somehow pulled the box. I loosened the screws and used a hammer to push the box…

Not for ceiling lights

Two studs protrude 5/8" from this ceiling junction box. This may work for some specific ceiling fans or even some lights but not many lights. I do not recommend this box, if you want something standard that will work with most gear I had to saw off two screws to make this box usable but now there is a bare minimum of screw holes in this plastic box to hang my gear, not ideal if something will be demolished. .

GREAT old work box: electrical boxes, wiring and fittings

This is such a great old work box to replace the fan bracket. The hardest part of this whole process is cutting out the old box. If the builder had used screws instead of nails I wouldn't have to go through this at all. Regardless, the three screws on this box and the angle they're placed at are perfect for the screwdriver to drive home on the extension cord. I used the hex bit on the extension to drill through the first screw. This will prevent the box from wandering around if you try to put…

Sturdy and easy to use

After about 30 years of use, the light box in one of the bedrooms broke and the ceiling fan was dangling from a wire. I needed a sturdy box that I could install without cutting a large hole in the ceiling. This box worked beautifully.1. The box is solid and I think it will hold the nominal 50lbs.2. It fit in the space left by the old box so I didn't have to widen the existing hole in the ceiling.3. I drove 3 screws into the beam with my cordless screwdriver. Fast and easy. Once in place, it…

Good product! in electrical boxes, wiring and fittings

This product is as described: solid construction and very easy installation without having to cut further drywall or repair to the attic (assuming it's a replacement). The only downside, as some other reviewers point out, is the wires that run through the top. The knock out holes for this are designed and positioned in such a way that it can be a bit difficult and uncomfortable to pull wires through. However, overall it is a very good product and I will not be using it in the future unless…

Ideal for installing the fan for the first time!

So this was my first fan install, I watched a lot of videos and made my own sets so I knew what I was getting into. What I didn't know was that the box in the ceiling I was planning to install this in wasn't rated for a fan, PLUS the joist extension bracket that the hardware store sells was too long to fit into my ceiling even at the smallest size to fit . I found this to be a solution because my bolt was pushed firmly into a hole in the ceiling where I could easily see and reach it. I used an…

Great design, great workmanship

A little surprised that many companies don't make this product. Perfect and simple solution compared to other types of fan rated boxes. Well I guess I'm a bit lucky that the light I replaced ended up right next to the bar. But even if I had to move it, this box would still prove to be an effective time saver. One star deducted due to knockouts. Firstly, if you're unfamiliar with this type of box, it's not entirely obvious which part of the tongue needs to be broken off. A slight change in their

Not good; generally not recommended.

I'm writing as someone who loves Madison smart boxes. Well, I don't know about love, but I use it because it's convenient, if not without flaws. The two biggest drawbacks to these boxes are that they move when the screws are tightened and they are difficult to hold directly into the hole (flat against the drywall). With wallboxes, you can play around with them, customize them, and eventually get what you want. This is almost impossible with a ceiling fan box. The instructions ask you to make…
