Great coffee grinder ruined by bad handle

This is an amazing grinder mechanism with a nice wooden and antique handle but difficult to use because of the handle. Simply put, the angled handle requires half the turning effort to get the grinder out of your hand. It is impossible to turn smooth a lot of pepper. Right now I have to hold the handle and rotate the case. I wish the Zessenhaus had a vertical handle (and a shorter top screw for clearance) because otherwise this unit is flawless. (I see they have a Havana model now.)

Zassenhaus Speyer 5.1 Beauty

After I lubricated the top of the metal and wood slip ring with meat block oil, turning became easier. However, turning the knob (angle) is inconvenient but looks cute. The mechanism bends when crushing pepper; the rotating part of the mill is not centered between the fixed millstones during milling rotation. Reversing the handle to reveal the milling path allows the center drill to relax and center itself. Mechanically just doesn't feel reliable. The thread tolerance of the tank cap is…

I picked up a second one to keep on my desk

I have a 10 year old Zassenhaus Speyer 5.1" pepper grinder that I bought at Penzey's spice shop. I loved it "I was able to find another at Revain as I've looked for it several times since. I really like the overall quality and visual appeal of this grinder. But what makes it my favorite is the quality of the insides and how easy it is to grip Anyway I'm tired of looking for it while cooking and finding it either on the dining table or near the grill so I bought another one for the table and…

Poor Ergonomics - Kitchen Utensils and Gadgets

The grind itself is good but I bought this to replace a Turkish style coffee grinder which was very easy to turn as the handle at 90 degree angle came out - so the ergonomics of grinding with it was easy - however, the handle of this coffee grinder rises at an acute angle, making it almost impossible to simply hold it in one hand and turn it with the other. I've found that the only way I can really turn it is to hold the knob and nut still in one hand and turn the entire wooden case. This makes

Seriously LOVE this! on Salt & Pepper

This is AWESOME! I was a bit concerned about other reviews about how difficult it is to turn and fill. I haven't found that neither is true in my case. It is just as difficult to fill as a normal pepper mill. I make a cup/funnel out of one hand and use it to put the peppercorns in. Very simple, just a few seconds. I didn't remove the center spindle, just the top and crank, and filled in everything else. I had no problems turning. There is no need for cumbersome balancing or boosting like I've…

The handle is a mistake

Advantages: - Great look, very aesthetically pleasing - Very durable. Nothing has broken in the year I've owned it. Wide range of grinds. Good quality wood and grinder. Easy to fill and change the degree of grinding. Decent reservoir for pepper. Yes, it's a smaller grinder, but for its size it has ample interior space. Disadvantages: - grinding method (hand movement). I bought this as an alternative to a regular pepper mill, thinking it would be softer on the wrist. Rather than repetitive…

pepper mills of excellent quality. Made with beautiful wood, lacquered finishes and a real mechanism that actually grinds peppercorns. I bought this as a gift for someone and filled it with peppercorns myself. I've read other people's reviews on here complaining about the difficulty in filling peppercorns. I do not agree. It requires a bit of skill, but it's by no means a painful or complicated process. I formed a "ring" at the top with the fingers of my left hand (after removing the handle and

Great pepper grinder - not made in China!

Super fast delivery for this from Germany. The seller has emailed me twice to make sure the grinder has arrived and we are happy with the product. We are very satisfied with the Mühle Zassenhaus - even enthusiastic. Looking back over the years, I found that finding a decent pepper mill that actually worked was a constant source of frustration. I remember the last wood mill we had was ordered from a spice company 25 or more years ago for about $50. It still works, but barely; it's weak and…

Pepper Mill

This is one of the few items that I am willing to give a full 5 stars for, as it met or exceeded all of my expectations. As others have repeatedly praised, this thing outperforms the competition in speed and shredding efficiency. I notice sporadic complaints about the small tank size, but it's actually about the same size as most other similarly sized coffee grinders, it's just that people don't realize they're actually using the pepper much faster due to the grinding speed. For illustration, I
