I have never been able to get the battery serial number right with other so-called vag-com cables and software. This device did it with little effort. It's also good for identifying CanBus errors with the correct problem. Many scanners give the correct code but not the correct problem name. I have other scanners that take hours to download the software. This scanner was updated in less than five minutes.
