Review on Dell S2817Q 4K HD LCD Monitor - High-Resolution Display (3840x2160p) - FBA_S2817Q by Marquise King

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good value for a 4K monitor

Just received and set up my new monitor - this is a very good deal - 4/5 stars. The monitor is easy to set up. Includes 3 video cables: HDMI, DP and MiniDP. There is also a special cable to provide 2 USB connections from the monitor, e.g. B. Keyboard, mouse, USB stick, etc. When you turn on the monitor (or restart the computer), there is a noticeable delay when the monitor is looking for signals. - About 3-4 seconds. My first impression was a bit disappointing. Playing with the configuration menu, I found that the monitor has several preset modes: Standard, Cinema, Game, etc. The default setting is Standard, and this setting gives almost the worst picture. Colors are washed out and contrast is good. However, other settings offer a good visual experience, and there's always a manual/custom setting if you want to customize the display. There's even an app you can install to customize the display with your mouse if you don't want to play with the buttons. The control buttons are very easy to use - a big improvement over my 10 year old Dell monitor. But the app even allows you to customize the display mode for your apps. So your browser might be in media mode and Word/Excel might be in paper mode. The monitor delivers a razor-sharp image with a resolution of 3840 x 2160. Even with Windows 10's "recommended" scaling of 150%, it offers plenty of real estate on the screen and ensures a reasonable text size. You should be aware that the monitor has a relatively small viewing angle. The picture is good when viewed directly. But about 10° off axis the hue starts to change and you lose sharpness. So keep that in mind when making your decision. I haven't used them, but there are plenty of picture-in-picture settings if you want to use multiple sources. I can imagine the TV/video working in the corner leaving the rest of the monitor for the computer. Monitor date: August 2017. Generally satisfied. It's not the best 4K monitor, but for the $299 I paid, it's a pretty good deal. And my seller was exempt from tax. I would definitely recommend a monitor if it suits your viewing style/needs.

Pros
  • Flashes every now and then. I do not know what you are talking about. Next to this great one
Cons
  • This Dell monitor does not support HDR so none of the settings will work.
