Designed to be used with the official Apple Mag-Safe charger. There are many third party chargers out there and I have had several. Third-party chargers aren't exactly the same size as Apple's, so the charger may be too big to fit or too small to fit safely. The charging cradle is very useful. designed and holds the charger securely enough - if you have the right one. I didn't have an Apple charger but suspected that third party chargers might not fit when I ordered this one. So as soon as I received it I ordered an Apple branded charger (you can save some money by ordering a used one). Most car mounts are designed to attach to your vehicle's air vents. I never liked that idea. I don't want my phone to get hot in our cold Wisconsin winters. Also, I didn't want my phone to block the heat when I needed it more than my phone. It has an adhesive backing for attachment to the dashboard. It attaches well and is secure. I cleaned my dash area thoroughly before installing the bracket. I also thought a lot about where I would go to place the mount. I wanted it to be visible while driving without being distracting, and I didn't want it placed so high that it blocked my view. I looked at several car mounts that met my expectations. That works great. My phone lives in my car.
