Looks great, feels great and is definitely waterproof.

When I tried it on I thought I was fooled with a waterproof nozzle. I've been looking for a quality outer case for a while and judging by the reviews it looks good. I put it on, went to the sink and poured water on my hand for a whole minute and the water just dripped. When I stopped, he wasn't happy at all. Since then I've worn it in rain, wind and snow and it holds up great. I bought this for hiking, but I will also wear it in the Wisconsin winter. Everything is good except that there is no…

Superb Midweight Jacket

I bought this jacket primarily for hiking in cooler weather. It is very similar to the LL Bean jacket which has been my favorite for many years with one exception. The Columbia jacket has a nice hood. I recently traveled through the Tetons and conditions during the day varied widely, from calm and sunny to intermittent downpours and strong winds. At that moment I wanted my jacket to have a hood. Well, with this new jacket from Columbia, it is. The jacket is breathable yet warm enough for a wide

Well-stitched Soft Shell

I was looking for a fleece jacket with a shell but couldn't find the right one. I started looking into softshells and settled on the Columbia Ascender. Conclusion: It is very well made and true to size. It's dense when I wear a fleece jacket underneath. The dark blue color is beautiful. Blocks the wind very well. Easily repels light rain. Thin, not as warm as I expected but if you want a lightweight jacket it will work well in most 3 season situations. The hood is so big it covered my eyes…

Pros
  • SOFT STRETCH FABRIC: Made from durable, soft fabric that stretches, you'll love the great freedom of movement of this jacket.
Cons

Jacket looks and smells like new but a bit damp/wet like wet or not completely dry (of whatever). Jacket and wet/soaked. There were no other labels or stickers on or hanging from the jacket. And fits in the same box as Body Wash (34 oz), Hand Wash (56 oz). Although they look good (not leaked). I'm hoping they haven't been used and someone replaced a new one with a used one, but still forgot to dry them fully, or at least didn't make sure the label looked crisp/dry, or fixed the torn bag. I'm…

Helmet compatible hood, no laces?!?

I salute Columbia for making one of the few traditional (non-membrane) softshells on the market! This is an endangered species and this is a tragedy. While I don't like all the details, the features and finish are solid enough, with one glaring exception: the hood. a small velcro closure at the back. There's nothing to pull the cavernous sides closer to the face to block the wind or prevent the hood from inflating and ballooning away in strong headwinds. I thought it was illegal on all 7…

The hood sucks but otherwise a good jacket

I've been wearing this jacket for about a year now. Worn hundreds of times in all weathers. I walk my dogs and travel on foot. i hate the hood When it's windy, it blows right off your head. It cannot be customized. Velcro on the back is useless. Lately the zipper has stopped constantly clenching the jacket's teeth, which is annoying but I can usually get it to work. I like the weight of the jacket and the presence of 3 zippered pockets. It's warm enough that when it's raining and 40 F I can…

Good for gray weather at lower temperatures.

I bought this jacket for the cooler (not frosty) months and wanted a hood for rain or wind. I'm 5'4" tall and 32" waist. I tried on the small size at a local store with just a t-shirt underneath and it fit really well. However, when wearing long sleeves or a double layer, I felt the size Small would be too tight around armholes and sleeves, so I ordered Medium from Revain instead. For me it's a relaxed fit at the chest and waist, not too baggy, but I'm more comfortable that way. Neither size is

Windproof, waterproof, thermal insulation enough. This item is fantastic

I love this jacket. I'm very picky about the features of my jacket and I think I've found exactly what I need. First, I wasn't looking for something super "warm". "But then what's the point of buying a jacket? Isn't that the point of the jacket? Keep warm?' You ask. Not really. I don't catch cold easily, I give off an absurd amount of heat, and unless it's windy all I need is a very light fleece, a hat and a hat, even in the coldest months pair of running gloves. in Pittsburgh in my daily life.
