The device itself isn't that bad, but the support is terrible Electronics

The device itself isn't that bad, but the support is terrible . I've been waiting a week for an answer to my initial problem, when I call support back the person I'm dealing with is always in a meeting. The answer I get is they will contact me if they know anything. It would be professional to reply to my email with this message instead of refusing support. I found this post which has my problem but support team still has nothing to say. me1.0 out of 5 stars Does not work with Windows Server…

Pros
  • Cascade up to 2 levels - Control up to 256 computers from one console
Cons
  • So-so

Wow! It's a great switch

Wow! That's a great switch. The connector on the switch side is a single plug. On the computer side, it can be USB or PS-2. So you can combine new and old devices.

Pros
  • Multiple operating system support - Windows*, Mac, Sun Solaris, Linux
Cons
  • The list will go on.

Bad video ghosting, mouse dropped randomly

This is the 5th or 6th IOGEAR KVM I have owned and I have always been very happy with it in the past. With PS/2 keyboards getting harder and harder to find, I decided it was time to replace my IOGEAR GCS138KIT (PS/2 8-port KVM) with this one. The first problem was that the mouse didn't work. I fixed it by disconnecting and reconnecting the mouse from KVM and figured it wasn't anything to worry about. Then came the video quality. At first glance everything looked fine. Then I opened a terminal…

Pros
  • The custom ASIC provides an auto-detect feature that detects the position of each station in the setup. iogears with 3 years free lifetime technical support
Cons
  • New Competitors

Works as advertised

I have used quite a few different brands of KVM switches with different ports from 2 to 24 ports. I like using ATEN products but they are quite expensive so I had to look for another manufacturer like Belkin or IOGEAR. Since there's no problem using both, I tried using IOGEAR, which seemed like a pretty good deal. It works great with no problems. The ability to use a PS2 cable or a USB cable on the same KVM switch is another reason I went with this option.

Pros
  • Broadcast to send commands to all connected computers
Cons
  • I am concerned

BIG times - external components

Device works great. It's easy to install. I use six computers at times with a seventh (laptop). This device doesn't skip a heartbeat with hot add and remove.

Pros
  • *** FRONT USB port - for system updates and general peripherals. Fully compatible with USB 1.1 brackets in a 19" (1U) system rack
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Great concept. Fun new and old computers/servers in a rack

Great idea! Connect PS/2 servers and USB-ONLY PCs in the same rack; just use a different cable. My kit included 4 PS/2 cables and 4 USB cables, 4 x 6' and 4 x 10' respectively. Outstanding KVM with programmable display on the port selection screen and the ability to set username and password directly on the KVM console. Local users must bypass this protection before they can even touch the servers. Highly recommended. Robust construction, easy installation.

Pros
  • Easy to use - computer selection via front panel LEDs, intuitive OSD (On Screen Display) and hotkeys
Cons
  • Get the gist
