ideal for learning how to form letters

4 year old already knew his alphabet but needed some practice to write letters. It took several sessions to figure out why he kept telling him to try again (you can't lift the pen halfway through a letter, which is tempting when you're trying to see where the lightpath is ). But once he got the hang of it, he became hooked! We kept it in the car most of the time so the time in the car wasn't boring or a waste of time. He still enjoys using it (tracing letters and counting the sparkling dots…

Great idea. Bad performance.

Writing letters correctly requires a steady hand as there is little adhesion between pen and pad. The child must also cross each dot in the outline of each letter. It's harder than it looks, believe me! When I tried it, I had to slow down and even then I was wrong 25% of the time. The biggest problem. Notepad crashes quite often, especially after changing letters. The voice giving instructions repeats itself. I have to take the battery out and put it back in when this happens, which is only a…

Level games are good for the most part, although the screen doesn't really tell if the kid has the correct letter shape after the kid hits enter. The only mode that offers corrective feedback to some degree is when the child follows the shape lines and stops when they are off course. A small problem because if your kid already recognizes letters and writes…

Preschool & Kindergarten

I bought this device to stimulate my daughter (3.5 years old) interest in learning and writing letters and numbers. Some days she really tries to write a letter and some days she just wants to doodle something. A level 1 it cheers you up whatever you write, on level 2 it's harder and she's not ready for it. I think it would be better if Stage 1 admitted that she didn't even try to write the letter and said something like "It's okay, try again". Or something along those lines. But it's a really…
