Pearl Izumi Barrier Jacket Medium Review

I love the slightly diagonal zipper. Allows the zipper to be fully closed without the zipper head or tongue digging into the neck. Very smart. Offers excellent protection from cold, wind and rain without bulk. I bought it a size up (XXL - I'm 5ft 10" and 210lbs, not quite a cyclist) and it gives me some space, very comfortable. Breathable, soft, compact.

I'm 180lbs 5ft 9in and bought the big one. If your body is like the guy in the promotional photo then it will fit perfectly. It is designed for people with broad shoulders and a narrow waist. I hardly live up to the bill. It should be a good size so that it doesn't flap in the wind when driving on the road. It's very light and compact. Seems to block the wind, not sure how rainproof it is as I haven't used it in the rain yet.

Bought to use on a 78 mile gravel crusher. The weather looked like storm/rain and in the low 60's. My main goal was to keep my core dry/warm and that helped keep the water at bay. It also protects well from the wind. It didn't start raining until mile 45-50. At that moment dirt/gravel/whatever you can think of was thrown in the back. When I finished the ride I was dry despite the sweat that had pooled underneath. It's not exactly something to keep you warm, but it's enough for the wind/rain!
