When I received them I thought they were good quality and sturdy. I used them twice, stretching the small trees I cut and tightening the fence netting. As with all previous reviews, I cannot unwind the cord for use. The black metal housing that snaps onto the coiled cable is too tight and it won't come loose without a lot of tension (i.e. tree to tree). Like others here, I originally received a defective block. There is a metal bracket that holds the cable reel in place. This part is important to the whole process as there would be a mess if the cable spool was loose and caught in the gears. Operation: YES, it's the other way around! Finally used for the first time to get out a slightly stuck 2WD RAV4 (also used a 300lb tether and it didn't break so I know I did it don't overstretch), it's clear that if you ever have to use one of these you're mostly in a bind and can really rely on the tool and of course I was, first the cable fell off the gasket and I can hear it already "Why don't you stop and straighten the cable?" It was pouring rain and it was dark and I made it myself and if I could find out I would definitely do it!
