I love this project because it allows you to make money by doing what most people already do, which is just by interacting via different social media platforms. All of your posts, likes, resteems (equivalent of a retweet) can all potentially earn you some side income. I'm shocked more people haven't already made the shift.
I've personally been using Steemit now for over two years and although the rewards have been discouraging at times I feel like I'm finally figuring it out and making a couple extra USD/post, which is far more than Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or Snapchat have ever paid me combined. In fact, they've all made money off of me and utilized my own personal data to market against me.

Pros
- Getting paid to do what you already do online? Hey why not? Not to mention it's a pretty great community of people for the most part. There are also many great side projects using the backbone of Steem; such as Steempeak, which is a fantastic for scheduling blog posts and the Partiko app for allowing mobile users to stay up to date/post pictures/comments/etc.
Cons
- The creators for a long time weren't seemingly very involved with updating the project or pushing to market the project.
