Be sure to check the packaging

Not that I used a 5/16 dowel but there were three 1/4 finders and only one 5/16. However, the product works as intended. It's a piece of metal with a pointed part to show where I need to drill holes. One star deducted for packaging errors.

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Excellent dowel centers

With these center dowel adapters, the right dowel holes can be easily drilled. They are beautifully crafted from steel with a beautiful nickel finish. Also the small 1/4" has a good weight. I have an older similar set, the tips are almost too thin making it difficult to see prints. On the other hand they leave a good and well distinguishable impression.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • There are more interesting options.

they appear to be a little oversized in diameter

I have been using this product for years but needed more as I lost 1/4 inch down the middle. The 1/4" center was very tight and required additional work on the drilled hole to fit the dowel center into the 1/4" hole. This is a great product, true center point, but my previous ones were easier to insert. Maybe I can grind down the diameter to make it a better fit. I'll try this option and we'll see.

Pros
  • nice to use
Cons
  • old

Use other than dowel marker

I just received my dowel markers but didn't have a chance to try them for dowel driving as I was in the process of lining my workbench with birch plywood. I had several bench vises on my workbench that required the holes in the plywood to line up. Many of the holes were blind so I couldn't see them under the bench. I knew I couldn't accurately transfer the hole patterns to the plywood by measuring with a tape measure. After several unsuccessful and strange attempts (I won't go into detail) to…

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities

  • Not sure
