I just received my dowel markers but didn't have a chance to try them for dowel driving as I was in the process of lining my workbench with birch plywood. I had several bench vises on my workbench that required the holes in the plywood to line up. Many of the holes were blind so I couldn't see them under the bench. I knew I couldn't accurately transfer the hole patterns to the plywood by measuring with a tape measure. After several unsuccessful and strange attempts (I won't go into detail) to transfer the hole patterns, I noticed a shift in the center of the dowel. Candles are on my shelf and are still in the package. I stuck some dowels into the holes in the bench, laid some plywood on top, and tapped it with my hand. The holes matched perfectly and my new sheet of plywood matched the holes and bench edges exactly. I didn't have enough dowels to make all the holes, but they were enough to recreate the template with proper registration. Today I ordered another pack of dowels. If you think you might need them in your shop, do yourself a favor and buy two packs. You can't beat the price.
