Essential for clean soldering

Keeping your iron clean and tinned will help you avoid cold joints and this simple system makes it easy and convenient. Combined with a quick dip on a wet sponge, it gives excellent results in hobby soldering.

Good quality sponges, a bit small.

Sponges and bowl look pretty decent but the sponges are much smaller than usual. They don't fit well in the bowl or any other holder I already had. Inserting two made it too tight, and pulling apart helps keep it in place, but it gets too flimsy.

I will never use a wet or dry sponge again

This is the best way to clean soldering tips. Nothing works better. I used the damp sponge that always comes with the iron. But I will never do it again. Never look for water, never try to dry a sponge before packing after a few repairs. Use these instead. The soldering tip gets clean and stays hot. Water always cools my iron. I need a hot iron. Take one and be happy.

does not meet the most basic requirement: keep calm

This vacuum cleaner has neither weight nor rubber feet. Drop in a soldering iron tip to clean it and it glides across the work surface. The body of this vacuum cleaner is extremely cheaply made. Very thin steel body. No thicker than steel in a can of tuna. In other words, when you buy this you will feel like you spent almost $20 on brass wool balls alone.

It's a nuisance to use, it's probably better to get the best here despite the seeming "value "

This thing is kinda useful, but also a little annoying. I had a Hakko at work that had a filled brass ball and didn't fall apart. This guy is absolutely a pain to use, it's overly slippery and the tip cleaner is way too small for this thing so you'll have to fish around. with iron to find it. I'm going to compress the top a bit to get a better fit, but once unpacked it immediately falls apart when you slap the top looking for curls.

Works but has to be held back

Firstly, the product works. My soldering tips are easy to clean. BUT the device is VERY light. I think that's because of the low price. No big deal, easy fix. And not necessarily. Just a few fixes to make it work better on the bench. I added weight (4 heavy flat magnets I had) to give it some weight to avoid tipping over. I glued a rubber bottom (tool box liner) to the bottom to keep it from moving around. This allowed me to keep my other hand away from that hot soldering tip. double sided tape
