The board is blank which is fine but I think it makes it a bit difficult to put the letters where they belong. I colored mine with permanent markers to make it easier and painted the backs of the letters black. I don't like that the letters aren't symmetrical when they could be. I bought it because it's simple: no animal images, no weird fonts. Just letters without too much confusion = awesome! The 3 year old loves playing with letters and it helps her learn them better.
