The old gasket was leaking badly and the old grommets were dry rotted and easily removed from the studs. All you need is a small ratchet with a short extension and an 8mm and 10mm deep socket. I used a kitchen sponge and WD-40 to remove the sticky residue from the motor-side mating surface. WD-40 and numerous towels have served me well to remove the old oil residue on the inside and outside of the valve cover. The new gasket may seem too long at first, but continue inserting it into the slot on the cover until fully seated. About two hours, but most of the time was spent cleaning the lid. Before putting on the bolts, rotate the bushings. Make sure they are pointing in the right direction. To access the valve cover for removal on the right side of the engine, you must first disconnect the spark plug leads from the coils. Then disconnect the coil connector from the cabinet to the firewall. Then loosen the two screws holding the spool. Be careful not to drop the screws or the coil. Install the coil in a safe place for future replacement. The last pin that secures the spool to the valve cover is almost impossible to remove with a ratchet, so use a 10mm open-end wrench to slowly unscrew it. Be patient. My wife came home from work to remind me to mow the grass just as I was about to make the final turn and get the bolt out and sure enough I dropped it and the bolt landed right in one of the heat shields, where he was not seen.
