Review on Crystalline Precision Captured: Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM Lens Unveiled by Nick Ross

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I was hoping for something more compact that would pack nicely into a backpack for the day.

At the moment I'm mainly taking photos with a Canon 50mm 1.4. I was hoping for something more compact that would be great to throw in a backpack for a day hike, or at least something less bulky. I figured with a $180 lens I wouldn't get too upset about it if it was ok. This thing impresses me all the time and I expect it to become as important a part of my photography arsenal as my 50mm lens. Yes, it's compact, it actually fits in a zipped pocket in my everyday backpack where I used to have to separate the lens from the camera to fit everything. It's wide and can really capture the landscape, as I did in the photos, and has the same great bokeh effect with a fast f/2.8 aperture as my 50mm lens (well, not by much, but still ) which I love and a must see. One surprise I wasn't aware of was that it has such great macro abilities, I mean I'm about 2 inches from the subject and it focuses right on it, bam. I can't tell you how lucky I am to be able to multitask so much on my adventures, I can photograph a strange bug, a beautiful flower, and capture a beautiful and wide sunset or a portrait of a person. I'm thirsty, I don't NEED multitasking devices, I'm not a pro and I love stretching my money as far and wide as possible. I'm very happy with it so far. The picture quality seems very good to me. The autofocus is fast and works very well even in low light. Yes, there are a few things I would prefer over my 50mm f/1.4 lens, but together they make me a very happy photographer.

Pros
  • Lenses for cameras
