Beat the competition

First TLDR: Hifiman Ananda in a shootout with other headphones I have, they blow the competition away. However, paying twice the price compared to the Hifiman Sundara might not be worth it, giving them an edge for their money. Tested with a variety of music across genres of metal, indie, rap, jazz, and electronic music, the Anandas delivered a much wider soundstage, more detail reproduction, and overall the music sounded cleaner, better, and more powerful than other headphones in my collection.

Pros
  • Expensive but decent
Cons
  • Nothing

Great, Friendly, Comfortable - 1 Year Update

This is fantastic. I don't know about quality issues for others as mine were untouched. I like the way they sound and I paired them with a Monolith THX DAC/amp. I put them on to check the audio and listened to music for 40 minutes before returning to reality. I feel completely comfortable in them. The sound is friendly, but still detailed and balanced, which is difficult to achieve. I love testing the headphones with the Fleetwood Mac and they have been very satisfactory in every way. The Only Headphones You'll Ever Need!

TL;DR - Get these headphones! These really are the best glasses you can buy. First impression: 1.) UNPACK - The box is really cool. It sets the stage beautifully and lets you know the headphones inside are going to be great in sound and quality. The box itself is a hard case made of leather material. In addition to the headphones, there are 2 cables in the box, one 1/4" and the other 1/8". 2.) DESIGN - The headphones look much better live than in the pictures. It combines retro and modern look.

Pros
  • Handsfree
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Fantastic sound and light and comfortable, especially for a planar.

HiFiMAN HE-400 was my first planar because it was the first planar at an affordable price ($400). However, it was heavy, uncomfortable and difficult to handle. Sound quality was muddy, especially in the mids and highs where Planar should excel. I took my old AKG K702 and never used 400s again. So I bought these headphones with trepidation and fully awaited their return. However, I was more than pleasantly surprised. Straight out of the box, these are the best headphones I've ever heard! If the sound is addictive, welcome to Heavy Stuff.

This review is for those looking at these great headphones and focused on comparing them to the Hifiman 400i and Sundara. (due to size, cost, transparency, etc.) but ideal for critical listening at home. The sound is muted when you push the input jacks towards your neck. This happens randomly when you turn your head sharply and stick a fork in your shoulder. Don't defect, just don't be rude to them.
