Type of review

The spring mounts in the store bought cans are recessed 1-3/8” from the ceiling edge of the can. I measured up to there, placed a mark, aligned bottom of the C Clip with the mark and marked the drill location with a sharpie. The standard drill was at an angle and wandered all over. A 90 degree impact drill that allowed the drill bit to be perpendicular to the mark solved that problem, plus an opportunity to buy more tools! To finish I used a stainless steel pop rivet instead of a screw. The…

Pros
  • Exactly what I needed to retrofit my existing (15 year old)
Cons
  • May not be as cost-effective as other installation options

Just what I needed: my feedback

I was trying to install some retrofit LED lights into some Lightolier ceiliing fixtures, but they didn't have the clips that the lights needed to hold them in place.I called Feit, the light manufacturer, and they told me about these clips. The clips come with self tapping screws, to installing them was easy. Job done!I doubt I will ever need them again, but if I did I would not hesitate to but these again.

Pros
  • Not sturdy, but worked as expected
Cons
  • Can be easily stripped if screws are overtightened

Now I can use tension spring LED lights

These worked perfectly for our recessed lighting cans that didn’t have tension spring clips. Sine the cans were already in the ceiling, I screwed the in one inch above the bottom of the cans with the screws on the bottom. I used a awl and hammer to puncture the cans first to allow for screwing in the c hooks.

Pros
  • Ensures that the downlights stay in place
Cons
  • May be more difficult to adjust than other installation options

Did the Job - my new review

These allowed me to use retrofit LED trims in fixtures that had no tabs to hold the spring wires on the LED trims. I'd like to give these a higher rating, but they are overpriced for what you get.

Pros
  • Easy to remove and replace
Cons
  • May not be suitable for use in wet locations

EXPENSIVE but an “answer” that took some time to find

After searching for a "solution” to securing the LED insets I found this product.EXPENSIVE and no instructions?Drilling is a pain and wasn’t perfect because of the cans having double walls. Then I tried the metal screw near the rim that held the can together - a better solution AND there were 2 across from each other!

Pros
  • Enhances the aesthetics of the space
Cons
  • Can be difficult to access if the can is installed in a hard-to-reach location

Easy installation best in my review

This is exactly what I needed. Measured an inch and a half in and do yourselves a favor and get a right angle drill attachment. Made my job super quick. Held the canned lights in place with no issues

Pros
  • Thickness is fine, plenty strong enough to support the retrofit LED's I used.
Cons
  • May not be easy to remove once installed

Converting to LED, needed clips

The new LED lights to retro fit into my ceiling lights did not have the tension clips. A bit of a pain to install due to the angle of the drill into the recessed lighting can. Worked great, lights are now snug to ceiling.

Pros
  • ‎DLR/C-Clip
Cons
  • May require drilling or other modifications to the can

A great find. best in my review

I was trying to upgrade the can lights in my house. only to find that the builder grade cans originally installed - didnt have any of the normal clips needed to attach to. I bought and returned 3 sets of retrofits, frustrated each time since nothing was compatible with the cheapie cans. I did not want to have to deal with drywall and paint work. Then I found these. They screwed right in. worked great. And the retrofits went in like a charm. Thanks!

Pros
  • Replaces broken or missing C-Clip hooks from recessed housings
Cons
  • May not be compatible with dimmer switches

Works great! Easy to install with the appropriate tool

Got it on time! Works perfect but may be challenging to install if you don’t have the right tool! I ordered a right angle attachment for my drill and that was all what I needed! 110 LED recessed light installed in a few hours!

Pros
  • Durable construction
Cons
  • May not be suitable for high traffic areas

Retrofit Older Cans

Home was built circa 1992 and the recessed cans did not have the tabs for led retrofits. Electricians want quote a bit of money to install new cans and patch drywall. These retrofit clips worked perfectly and picked up on two homes present in my existing cans. Saved me a bunch of money.

Pros
  • Prolongs the life of the downlight
Cons
  • May not be suitable for drop ceilings

works, but pricey good for me

i needed these for a retro fit LED. i installed them using the slots already in the can. this way I didn't have to measure up on each side, and then didn't need the supplied screw.they work as expected. pricey though for small thin pieces of metal.Tip- if you're using an edison plug (picture), wind the wires up a bit so they don't weigh the bezel down.

Pros
  • Curved design to align with recessed can
Cons
  • May not hold up well under heavy use

Not the ones i thought they were

My fault for ordering the wrong clips. I wanted the ones that had the U-Clip at the bottom so i didnt have to screw them to the housing

Pros
  • These work fine for recessed cans that don't have them.
Cons
  • May not fit snugly in some can sizes

Easy install. Great product. Read for details.

I replaced all the old indoor recessed flood lights in our house with retrofit LED lights that the have metal spring-arm connectors. Our recessed cans were an unusual style without C (torsion) clips, so I purchased these. I was prepared for a tedious job, but I am so pleased that they were very easy to install. For the first light, I drilled the holes too high, so my LED light kept sliding out of the recessed can. I removed and lowered the clips and it worked perfectly. All the rest were very…

Pros
  • No special tools required
Cons
  • May be difficult to remove if the fixture needs to be replaced

Not the easiest to install

I ordered these about a year ago, they finally got around to installing them over Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks. You have to make sure you install them 180° apart on the inside of the high hat. Also, you can install them with the clip, facing down or up depending on how level your high hat is I install them about one and a half inches from the edge of the receptacle. I had to drill a small pilot hole. That was actually the most difficult part in retrofitting our recessed lighting.I got…

Pros
  • Perfect for retrofit projects
Cons
  • May not provide enough support if the bulb or fixture is heavy and needs to be moved frequently

Converted some cheap cans to clip-ins to facilitate LED conversion cheaply. This is your best bet. A couple of tips:1) Drill a 1/4" hole in a piece of plywood 2"x5" and mark a line 1 1/2" down from the hole.2) Set your new jig so that the line aligns with the bottom of the light can.3) Insert your nail set or punch into the hole in the jig and give it a good tap (enough to punch through the can).4) Repeat the process on EXACT other side of the can (use a tape if necessary- it's…

Pros
  • ‎1.12 ounces
Cons
  • Can be easily overshadowed by larger fixtures

Meh. They perform as expected.

No instructions, not even cursory. Not exactly hard to figure out but still. And I didn’t consider how difficult it would be to install, even with a small drill.

Pros
  • Makes the installation process hassle-free
Cons
  • May require additional hardware for proper installation

Great find in my review

Bought newer house in the north. I have never seen can lights without attachments in it. The inside was smooth. The lightbulb held the metal ring up next to the ceiling. We attached the clips in can lights already installed in the ceiling. It worked great. The new led lightbulbs made my house look brighter. Thank goodness I found them. Easy to install.

Pros
  • Provides a professional finish
Cons
  • May require additional hardware for installation

Retrofit light install necessity for fixture without clips

This product fit our needs. My only issue was one on the brackets actually bent when we tried to insert the spring clip From the retro fit fixture. We were able to get it back in place and it held on the second attempt.

Pros
  • For 5 to 6 inch retrofit cans
Cons
  • May not come with clear instructions

Simple clip that solved a huge problem. I like it!

These clips are exactly what I needed to install my 6" LED retrofit kits into existing recessed lights. I placed the clips about 1/2 inch from the bottom of the can so it was easy to screw them in with my drill. Took me about 20 minutes to do 4 lights. I liked that you can place the clips where it makes sense unlike other clips available that make you slip them in around the bottom edge of the can and limit your ability to adjust the height/accessibility. These were perfect, they were…

Pros
  • Quick and efficient installation
Cons
  • May not be strong enough to support heavier fixtures

It would be nice if they had some guide to how far in .

Simple and did exactly what I needed them to do. It would be nice if they had some guide to how far in the can to install them. Having to buy my screws separately was somewhat annoying. but I think this is packaged more for electrician or other professionals that don't need the hand holding on installing nor need redundant hardware.

Pros
  • Electrical
Cons
  • May not be able to support certain types of trim
