Review on Acer G246HL Abd 24" LED Monitor - 1920X1080, 60Hz, Tilt Adjustment by Ryan Franklin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very good monitor at a low price.

I bought this monitor to upgrade my old VGA display. (1360x768). I'm a very serious PC gamer myself and I find it important to have a better display in order for the game to play the way it's meant to be played. I find this monitor perfect for the job. (Note that 1080p looks better on a smaller screen, so buying a 32" TV with 1080p might look different.) Pros - Vibrant colors - The black levels on this screen are incredible. Everything is clearly defined. (Tested with same games below) - NO PICTURES - (DVI-D running) I've played Starcraft II, WarZ, Arma II, Left 4 Dead, Crysis and a few other games and have seen absolutely no ghosting of the picture. . -Very low power consumption. This is the first monitor with an external transformer (strange). Very slim and stylish design. - Easily changeable settings - The ports that DVI-D and VGA cables plug into are actually stable compared to other monitors that seem very, very flimsy. - Almost instantly responsive when the computer wakes up from sleep. - Lots of built-in power saving settings, although they distort amazing colors when turned on. (Eco-friendly) - ALL packaging materials are recyclable. Cons - Stand is not the best. It can be screwed down, but can only be moved in forward and backward tilt. (It doesn't seem easy to move, it seems it can break) - It's not that bad, but when you turn on the monitor for the first time, you become blind. The brightness at maximum settings is painful to look at and needs to be turned down. -DVI-D but DVI-I? The monitor is compatible with the DVI-D connector I currently use, but it only has a DVI-I connector. - When I opened the box, there was a fairly large smudge on the screen, but the screen protector was able to remove it easily. (Not too bad, but annoying) NOTE. The monitor's packaging was a little strange, but very secure. The monitor itself is wrapped in a thin pad to prevent scratches. It was then reinforced with styrofoam to keep it stable in the box. (This is the weird part) Then the same box was placed inside another box after being surrounded by a layer of paper. I wouldn't worry about breaking the monitor to ship it damn safe.
