Review on Dell UltraSharp U2515H 25 Inch LED Lit Monitor: Crystal Clear Display and Superior Performance by Luis Block

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great monitor, great price.

This monitor is mainly used for gaming and sometimes for watching movies. I'm usually very picky when it comes to monitors. I've tried all types, 144Hz TN, a few IPS but this one shines far and wide beating anything I've used before and at $300 it can't be beat. I'm sure you'll find an excellent IPS panel with a 100+ Hz refresh rate, but prices start at around $700 for something of this caliber. Probably too cool for the average person. I'll start with the positive things. Pros: Lowest backlight glare I've seen on an IPS monitor. Not noticeable on anything but the darkest of darknesses, and even then it's a very minor issue. You have to look at the panel from an awkward angle to really notice it. But from what I've read it's usually a mixed bag. Some people complain about uncomfortable glare from the backlight, it could be lucky or maybe they are not very familiar with the disadvantages of IPS panels that you should know. Whatever I got, it's wonderful. - Brightness. It's bright! I usually keep it at about half power. One of my favorite annoyances is the low brightness and the inability to see things clearly when gaming etc. In this respect it excels. Very happy.-Colors. The colors are amazing! Even right out of the box before calibration. I think the multimedia preset is the best, even better if you calibrate from there. - Stand. The stand is great for that. Sturdy construction and I like the adjustability. I don't want to go back to a monitor with a fixed stand afterwards. No noticeable ghosting or input lag. While I'm admittedly not the type to pay much attention to such things, it hasn't hampered my game anyway. - screen cover. I've heard people say that the screen finish falls somewhere between matte and glossy. It seems so. It's definitely not as matte as my other monitors and certainly not glossy. Other than that, I didn't find any of the usual downsides of matte screens. For example, that "shiny" look when looking at white and other light colors. It's also very crisp and clear while still holding back those nasty reflections. - Menu settings. The menu itself is intuitive and easy to navigate. Not messy or confusing like other monitors. However, the buttons themselves are a different story. Cons: - Those touch buttons used to navigate the monitor options are terrible. You have to press really hard and in exactly the right place for it to register. Luckily, it's not that bad once you get the hang of it and can go into the settings to have it beep when properly enabled so you know what you're doing. - I wish the panels had a glossy option, but that's not really a negative. TLDR: This is a great IPS panel with vibrant colors, a vivid screen, great customization, and minimal backlight glare (in my case). I highly recommend it if you are interested in IPS. Monitor. I recommend this monitor if you're in the sub-$500 price range.
