Review on Dell UltraSharp U2515H 25 Inch LED Lit Monitor: Crystal Clear Display and Superior Performance by Jason Edwar

I'll go straight to the issues I encountered while using this monitor and then elaborate on my review in detail. My first major issue with this monitor is the power saving/standby issue. With most monitors I've seen on the market, if your computer goes to sleep, you unplug the monitor cable, or your computer tries to put the monitor to sleep (using VESA DPM ). Not this monitor! This monitor goes to full brightness and displays a large warning message "No cable. After 5 minutes, the display switches to "sleep mode", which moves across the screen and also shows the timer as a bar. I wanted to use this in my office where I would let my laptop sleep, or unplug my laptop from the monitor to use at the conference table for presentations. This message is extremely annoying. I can't imagine using this in a living room or bedroom and encountering this problem. The "Cable not detected" warning message should only appear on the monitor if no signal is detected when the monitor is first turned on or if the signal is lost very momentarily and the monitor should remain at its current brightness settings. If the monitor loses a pre-existing signal, it should go into sleep mode if there is a momentary loss of signal. If you do a google search for "Dell save energy in 5 minutes" you will find that other people are complaining about this issue not only on the U2515H but also on the U2715H and U2414H. There are a few people who claim that this is a firmware bug even when using an HDMI cable and doesn't happen with DisplayPort. This message is all the more problematic given that manually turning the monitor on and off via the touch-sensitive power button on the front is quite a hassle as the buttons are unresponsive. The second issue I encountered is related to capacitive buttons. They're not very responsive, and you often have to wait to see if the monitor has detected you're pressing a button. Because this monitor doesn't have automatic input switching and no ambient light sensor, I often have to go into the menu to change the input and adjust the brightness based on the amount of daylight. 4 inches around the inner screen which is only black - the screen does not extend from edge to edge (see photo). So if you have a black or dark background around the edges, when rearranging windows it becomes difficult to quickly align the windows to the edge of the screen as it's difficult to see where the end of the inner screen is! Even if you think you can seamlessly place this monitor next to another monitor without a bezel, you won't gain much as you'll still have quite a distance. The fourth problem I have is that the power indicator is off in sleep mode. The power LED on the Asus version of this monitor is amber when in sleep mode. This monitor's power indicator goes on and off, or as Dell calls it, "breathes" in sleep mode. This is very annoying when you are sitting at your desk and not using your computer and your monitor is in sleep mode. The fifth issue is that Dell does not release firmware updates for this monitor to end users. Unlike other manufacturers, you only do it at home. The last issue I had was with Dell tech support. When I responded to a thread someone started on the Dell Support Forums regarding a power saving issue, Dell resolved my first post. When I posted more information the next day, Dell deleted both of my posts. Why else would they do it, other than to try to cover up an issue they must have been visibly embarrassed about? I then tried contacting Dell Tech Support chat multiple times but each time I got a "Page Not Found" error message. In fact, it turned out that there is an error when entering a certain number of characters in the problem description field. After going through that, I spoke to an idiot who thought I needed a report. Then when I explained to her at length that I just had to tell the engineers about the firmware issue, she gave me a Dell Tech Concierge number which turned out to be a chargeable one! I think I should have used the Asus PB258Q. . They seem to use the same beautiful LG panel, but Asus has physical buttons. Also, Asus has a nice glowing amber LED when the monitor is idle, rather than the annoying white LED that turns on and off on the Dell, as one enthusiastic Dell engineer added. (You can turn off the power light on both Asus and Dell when the monitor is on). So the rest of my review: My monitor requirements were: 1440P: For the monitor size I wanted, 25 inches, this resolution gave me the most screen real estate without worrying about screen scaling and blurry text. The text on my 15.4" 1080P laptop monitor was a bit small for me, so I needed at least a 32" 4k monitor, which would be too big for my desk. I'm nearby and sitting fairly close to my monitor (within 24 inches) so 25 inches at 1440P is perfect. There is some loss of clarity at 27 inches, which I like as the pixel density is lower. Auto Standby: Believe it or not, some monitors don't have a power saving/auto standby feature, even though this feature has been around for almost 20 years! No annoying LEDs: Many monitors have very bright LED operation indicators. In standby mode, some monitors have a bright blinking LED. There are many complaints about this as it can be very distracting. Crisp, pixel-perfect text: Because I'm nearby, everything that's nearby is very clear to me. Therefore, any blur is synonymous very disturbing. I've seen some cheap panels that display blurry text (yes, with numeric input and using the screen's native resolution). For this monitor: The actual display panel is great. There's definitely some IPS glow, but mostly if you have very high brightness. It's not the end of the world for me, like a sleeping problem. I liked the fact that you could turn off the power LED when you turned on the monitor. However, you cannot disable the sleep LED. The sleep indicator LED slowly turns on and off. In the end I had to glue a piece of tape. Unfortunately this doesn't work very well due to a power saving issue as I need some kind of indicator to know when the crappy capacitive buttons are responding to my touch. One good thing about this monitor is that when it's plugged into your PC, whether it's turned off by software or not, your computer will still show it as plugged in, so you don't have to worry about that Your computer recognizes it again when switched on. , or it wakes up from standby. Note that the Dell U2515Hx is the same monitor, except it's from Revain and includes an HDMI cable instead of a mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable. I also didn't have any issues like some reviewers if something was missing from the packaging or had the wrong service tag. Just make sure you're buying this from a reputable seller on the Revain marketplace (read the seller ratings).
