Review on LG 34UM88C-P 34 Inch UltraWide 3440X1440P Monitor with Screen Split 2.0, OnScreen Control, Flicker Safe, AMD FreeSync™ Technology by Daniel Nix

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best (flat) monitor I've ever had.

I bought this monitor to replace a 32" 1080p TV that was my primary monitor. I also have another 27" 1080p monitor for a dual screen setup. I've been eyeing the LG 34UM95, but I don't like the aesthetics of its stand. I wanted (still want) a curved Samsung S34E790C but my wife gets sick every time she looks at it. I chose this flat screen because it looks great, although I couldn't find any detailed reviews. Pros: size. This monitor is huge. I almost had trouble installing another monitor next to it on my desk. It's the same vertical size as my 27" monitor, which is nice. Permission. The 3440 x 1440 resolution is great for a screen of this size. I have another 29 inch 2560 x 1080 monitor and it looks too much like a short monitor. That 34-inch screen definitely feels wide, not short. The monitor supports 60Hz refresh rate for both HDMI and Displayport image. The colors are fantastic out of the box. I don't see any of the backlighting that is common on IPS panels. - Stand. Excellent tilt and height adjustment. I can move the screen from 2.5 inches on the table to 7 inches. - Comes with DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable and HDMI to HDMI cable. Cons: - It wobbles. My desk is not that stable, so any movement of the desk causes this monitor to wobble a lot. I didn't notice that with smaller monitors. Conclusion: Now I just need a few more of these monitors! EDIT September 2016: 5 months later this monitor is still working perfectly. However, since my original purchase I have purchased a 34" LG 34UC87M-B curved monitor (pictured alongside my LG 34UM88C) and a 34" Samsung S34E790C curved monitor. I really appreciate the subtle curves of these new monitors and I love how they make the edges of the screen more comfortable and less "far away". If you want to install two 34 inch monitors side by side, make sure at least one of them is curved. I have LG curved and flat monitors side by side (as shown in the picture). I prefer to watch videos and play video games on a curved monitor while editing photos on a flat screen. This is the only online live streaming platform that I could easily run full screen in this ultra wide format. Other streaming services play HD movies in 21:9 format, but don't scale to full screen. See comparison pictures. Streaming HD movies from Windows Store and Google Play.
