Don't wait to buy!: Boating

I hesitated and waited until my cable broke for the third time. My buddy has a newer ranger with this train on his boat. The quality is excellent, the installation took 5 minutes. This was supposed to be my first upgrade when I bought my boat.

Cons

Remaining stock at Boating & Sailing

Send me an old version of this pen that has already broken a second time? I've had a newer pin on another boat for a few months with no problems but I know the first rounds of these buttons are useless, when I bought the first I had no control over who Revain shipped them from but I have paid too much for the garbage

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Almost never

Should last longer than a trolling motor

This should last for years. It is well made and designed for heavy use. The only fault I can find is the poor instructions. It's not clear which end goes to the handle and which end goes to the trolling motor. I'm assuming some of the low ratings are because people wrote it backwards. I went to YouTube and found out. It is easy to install and takes very little time.

Pros
  • great product
Cons
  • unbelievable price

A significant improvement over the original cable

This cable is a major improvement over the original as it is a plastic coated steel cable (as opposed to a traditional fabric based cable). The grip is a little better, but the real story is in the strength of the steel cable. It also appears to be the only product available on the market. However, you could probably make your own version for around $5 because it's so easy.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Off fashion

I would like more detailed instructions

Only used on a fishing trip. Works perfectly, but cannot confirm durability. I replaced the original rope on my Fortrex with this one. I would have preferred if they had a latch at the end of the cord so they can be installed after the cord is threaded, making setup a lot easier. I could save myself a lot of trouble and tape it to the original rope so I can just thread it through while I remove the old rope.

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

Nice update from OEM

Didn't have to wait that long to pick one of these. I have far more confidence in this product than the original plastic handle and lacy cord which is wearing out after just a year on my motor guide. I was hesitant because most of what I read didn't specifically say this would work with the Motorguide X3, but it's a lot easier to lift and a lot better than what came with the trolling motor. This is a good update, there is no reason to doubt it.

Pros
  • Best in the niche
Cons
  • I will add later

Grip errors on trolling motors

I installed this harness about a month ago and have used it on the water about 6 times. In two cases, the handle came off the cable. The set screws holding the cable in the barrel have failed every time, and of course getting a worn cable back in grip and barrel is nearly impossible. After the second mistake, I noticed that the set screws had spots that pierced the cable but didn't seem to clamp it well, so I cleaned up the spots and put the screws back in. Hoping for a better cable clamp. Ifโ€ฆ
