Reliable and powerful for TV and video

I still have two of these at home. I still have a lot of video cassettes and need to be able to play them. I had a Sony DVD/VCR and the DVD was the most picky I've ever seen. He often refused to play a CD he had played the day before. Philips is a martinet, there are no problems playing DVDs and videocassettes. No wonder the Sony product is no longer on the market.

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • There are downsides

What you should know before ordering this product

When I ordered this product, I didn't realize that this product can only be connected to TVs with digital jacks. Since my analog TV only plugged into a cable outlet, I was unable to use it and have since requested a return authorization from the seller. I'm hoping to find another that will allow me to make the required connection.

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • High price

Still working fine after 8 months of heavy use

Like most, I bought these to watch my old VHS movies that are either too expensive or not being replaced with DVD versions be able. It's on my main TV and I'm retired so it's been used a lot in the last 8 months. I use it for audio books on CDs, DVDs and VHS tapes. It still works fine, but there is one annoying feature. If I stop the CD or DVD for a while, it automatically switches to VHS mode. So if I go back and press play it doesn't work until I change the mode back to DVD.

Pros
  • Easy to install
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

I hate Philips Electronics

I bought this Philips DVD VHS Combo because I thought I had a set that I could use for years. It was wishful thinking. The DVD component played for an hour after I took it out of the box, then the DVD case got stuck and my DVD got stuck in the player. The VHS part scratches all my tapes. I'm not excited about this dawn deal! So - my advice to all consumers looking at this product. I would shop elsewhere for a different brand and model. Phillips is a big disappointment.

Pros
  • Good stuff
Cons
  • Good but not great

Application accepted. in TV & Video

Ordered 9 days before Christmas as a Christmas present. I thank them for the timely delivery, but it arrived on the 24th. The seller sent it in an open box and advertised the contents of the recipients. I'm pretty sure I checked the box that this is a gift. And you're wondering why I don't shop online anymore? Thank goodness this was the only item I received from the seller. It would really ruin most of my Christmas. It's a VHS-DVD combo deck and it still works, I haven't heard any complaints…

Bad VHS, okay DVD good for DVD players and recorders

Revain's product page doesn't mention that this Phillips player only plays VHS tapes over composite cables for your TV can play. This device is equipped with connectors/connectors for component, S-video and composite cables (no HDMI connectors). So component is the best available quality for this device. Composite cables are included. Even S-Video is better than Composite (our LG Smart TV doesn't have an S-Video port, so I couldn't test it). I called Phillips tech support and they confirmed…

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Some issues
