Aeternity has a unique combination of infinite scalability, private state channels, built-in trustless oracles, a better smart contracting language (RUST) and a unique hybrid POW/POS mining system that can run on phones in the future. While the project had a rocky start, their track record since them is impeccable and nothing has managed to slow this team down. Pros
  • Team has hit all major milestones since November. Testnet now includes cuckoo cycle mining, oracles, and a new smart contracting language. Look at their pivotal tracker (https://www.pivotaltracker.com/n/projects/2124891) to see the road map and how great a job they've done meeting milestones. Their team is full of world-class Erlang developers and they are building a highly scalable, very capable blockchain.
Cons
  • CTO drama from one CTO that can't play nice and another that tried to extort the project damaged public perception. The team has also done very limited amounts of public marketing, but apparently they are doing a lot behind the scenes to prepare for main net launch.

  • Interesting state channels and decentralized oracles usage, hybrid PoW+PoS consensus, primarily developed in Erlang
Cons
  • Constant problems with CTOs last year which makes the project less credible
