Stellar is a distributed payments system that is open-source. With an emphasis on the developing world, it is a leapfrog technology that links individuals, payment systems, and banks. It uses a crypto-asset called Lumens (XLM) as a bridge to enable multi-currency and asset transactions swiftly, reliably, and for a fraction of a penny.

The value of XLM is anticipated to increase in price if banks replace their traditional means of foreign cash transfer with Stellar's household technology. International bank transfers require substantial sums of money.

Stellar is fantastic for sending value for now; I haven't used it for anything else, but I'll keep using it to see where it goes.
