No cables to plug in (which may limit functionality if you want to use it to test cables instead of sockets). Powers 3-pin sockets only; I haven't tried it with an adapter to a two-pin socket. You can test regular sockets and GFIC sockets. So easy to read. But more than that - it checks a few things: - it gives you the exact voltage so you can make sure it's not just powered, it's properly powered - it tells you if the outlet is plugged in properly (e.g. polarity, neutral, hot, ground, etc.) d.) ) While those with wire ends in metal sleeves have more versatile testing capabilities, it seems (and I think) much safer to just connect these without holding the wires. It was perfect for my needs of testing outlets in my old house!
