Bluetooth remote control for photo and video accessories

I love how handy the selfie stick is, but I don't know how to set up the bluetooth remote control. I have a samsung s20 and the bluetooth remote controls the audio/volume settings instead of taking photos or videos. I've unplugged the Bluetooth remote many times, but it still only controls part of my phone's sound/volume.
