Review on ASUS XG248Q 23.8" Adaptive Esports Monitor - Full HD 1920x1080, 240Hz, Blue Color, Flicker-Free, Adaptive Sync Support by Resat Daniels

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent 240Hz value, excellent image quality after calibration, excellent performance

The monitor arrived with no dead pixels or display/performance issues. Like most TNs it runs a little brighter, but after a bit of tweaking I realized this is a great entry-level 240Hz panel and I'm happy with my purchase. I wanted to leave a few thoughts as I didn't find much detailed information about this monitor before purchasing it, so read on if you're interested: - The stand is ugly so I would recommend installing it. The black VESA screws that came with the monitor are actually standoffs that allow you to install standard mounts. You need to screw in the standoffs first and then attach them with your own VESA screws. Works as expected on my dual monitor stand. The bezels could be a bit smaller, but they don't bother us at all and that's just an aesthetic aspect. The 23.8 inch size factor increases the pixel density slightly which translates into a sharper/clearer image compared to my similar 24 inch screen. monitor, but the default calibration/colors were very dull in my opinion. I spent a lot of time setting it up and I think I have a very good picture compared to the settings I found on google. I will list my settings below. The only small issue I had with the refresh rate was that Windows set it to 200Hz when it first plugged in. For some reason the 240hz setting wasn't available so I had to go into NVCP to set the correct 240hz which isn't a big deal but if you're not careful you might not notice. The monitor runs fine at the refresh rate I've tried (200/240) and along with G-Sync, I haven't experienced any cracking, visual artifacts, or performance issues. Response time seems to be the same as my other true TN-1 3ms panel when playing competitive FPS at high levels. I definitely notice an improvement in image smoothness compared to 144Hz and feel that the shorter frame time / clearer on-screen motion improves my gameplay in the heat of the game. This monitor is perfect for FPS games like CSGO, Quake, R6, Valorant etc. 240Hz instead of 144Hz is the way to go when trying to reach the higher ranks of MMR. in all the games I play, which is why I chose G-Sync. In the few games I've been able to use it in, I've experienced the smoothest in-game movement I've ever seen. I didn't see any noticeable flashes or distortion unless my footage went down, which is to be expected. I highly recommend using it if you have a faster setup than me and this monitor supports ELMB up to 240Hz which is nice. The OSD menu can be operated wonderfully with the small joystick on the back of the monitor. , all menus are self-explanatory and have everything you expect for a great picture. It allows you to save up to 5 different setting profiles, which is very handy as I surf a lot late at night and prefer to dim the screen. The included picture presets are decent, and racing/FPS are the winners for me because you can set them to a half-decent picture (User mode is what you want). The blue light filter works well for night view, and the overdrive setting seems to work best for me, leaving it at the default value (3). My picture settings may not look as good to you as they do to me as there are many factors at play when viewing a monitor such as room light sources and viewing angle/distance. Even these settings without calibrating the Windows display end up having a slight gamma issue, but that's tolerable. It is highly recommended to follow the steps after the OSD settings to fix this. I hope this looks good to you or at least gives you a good starting point to make your own adjustments using the LCD test on lagom.nl website User mode Blue light filter: 0 Brightness: 65 (change if needed) Saturation: 50*RBG -Values can be changed according to your own opinion depending on the reference images / background images you are looking at. Red: 41 Green: 34 Blue: 43 Gamma: 2.2 OD: 3 Brightness value and needs further adjustment but can be fixed) After that, press Windows key and type "Calibrate display color”, run it and follow the instructions. I used this tool specifically to correct gamma (couldn't figure it out the old fashioned way) and I think it really did the trick of adding the finishing touch to the image quality. You can also run "Customize Plain Text" and follow these instructions, hey. TL; DR: I would recommend this monitor specifically for gamers looking to gain a competitive advantage at high levels of gaming. If you're a person who doesn't take gaming too seriously for their own good I would suggest saving money and getting a 144Hz 1ms monitor as these are very cheap these days. But when money is no object, 240Hz looks and performs better than 144Hz every time, and this monitor proved it to me.

Pros
  • It's been 2-3 years now and it still works great.
Cons
  • Everything was great but the monitor came up with a dead pixel on the screen.
