Fast, but too many other problems

Bought to try and replace the XF250Q. The display I received had no visible haze or vertical stripes. On the plus side of the monitor is the input lag; My god, this display is responsive. I have no way of measuring input lag, but it's definitely more responsive than any display I've used before. Input lag aside, this monitor suffers from many issues and I wonder why they add LED lighting for gamers instead of actually making the panel look pretty. Problems: 1) Colors, brightness and contrast are below average. It cannot be used with ELMB because the screen is too dark. You can try to compensate for the darkness by using the AMD or NVIDIA color tuner to further adjust the brightness/contrast, but you'll end up with a washed-out screen. I also tried calibrating the display but nothing looked even remotely like my XF250Q (which isn't a good display either) 2) Sharpness? The display is obviously too sharp and there is no sharpness setting in the OSD and sharpness is disabled in the DisplayWidget. 3) Screen artifacts, distortion and flicker. Maybe it was just a glitch in the monitor I got, but any fast movement (even scrolling through a webpage) resulted in severe distortion and artifacts. This is the main reason I sent the monitor back, totally unacceptable. I refused to replace it because it was simply an indication of a terrible or non-existent quality control process. 4) Do not download DisplayWidget from ASUS because it is an old version that does not even support this monitor. Use the CD version instead. I usually just throw the CDs away because the latest version is made available for download, but apparently ASUS can't update their website. Note: You can only control Overdrive via the DisplayWidget if you have ELMB enabled. 5) ELMB - I've noticed quite a bit of strobe crosstalk on this monitor and combined with the naturally overly dark, sharp image it looks pretty bad. You can fix some of the strobe crosstalk by using the DisplayWidget to change the clipping to 4, which costs a 1-2 pixel crown. Overall, I would not recommend this monitor. Both the XL2546 and the LG GK750F-B are great monitors if you want to reduce motion blur at 240Hz. If you don't need motion blur reduction, just use something else.

Pros
  • 240Hz improves my recordings and this monitor was worth it!
Cons
  • The monitor takes too long to turn on.
