This mat is ready to use. It includes 3 batteries needed to start and a small screwdriver to open the compartment. The carpet is comfortable and the hanging toys are cute and attractive. A mirror is a wafer-thin reflective material that's great for not having glass to help prevent injury. The piano plays music when baby's little feet kick, which is fun and interactive, but I can't find a switch to disable this feature. With that in mind, changing the battery can be quicker than usual, which is why I'm deducting a star. All in all, this is a fun interactive and addictive playmat. A great gift for any parent.
