Wall mounted controls ideal solution

I have been using Smart Switches for about 5 years. Initially, I used Linear/Go Control switches everywhere that didn't have a "runner" or any physical connection between the primary and auxiliary switches. With Smartthings, this is far from ideal, as it requires setting up smart lighting apps that turn the main switch on or off when the auxiliary switch is activated, which always causes an annoying delay. When you hit the switch, you want the light to come on immediately, not five or ten seconds later. These switches do exactly what you need. You don't connect to the hub via Z-Wave, but you don't have to. All they do and need is to flip the main switch. If you switch the auxiliary switch on or off, this happens immediately with the main switch. No more annoying delays! The Z-Wave aspect is handled entirely by the main switch as it should be. I'm not an electrician so I haven't quite figured out how best to handle multi-switch situations. For the Linear/Go Control switches, I used a "traveler" to power the auxiliary switches. Wiring them up is confusing at first, but once you understand what the switches do, it's actually quite simple. I wrongly assumed that these switches require both a constant power supply and a signal line. You don't need them, they just need a slider/signal (both setups require neutral and ground). If you have a 3+ switch situation, connect both side switches to the same slider. Quite easy! Not only do they perform much better than switches that only communicate via Z-Wave (i.e. use a physical traveler instead of a logical Z-Wave connection), but they also reduce the number of switches appearing in the hub, thereby saving money the interface. I still have to rebuild a few circuits and I really want to do it because these switches are perfect.

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • Basically everything is fine but...
