Free Open Source alternative (not quite as advanced)

The best thing about this OS is that it's free. It has a small footprint, which makes it ideal for embedded systems or smaller servers like web/database servers. I wish they would have made more adjustments to make it easier to use with a non-technical user. For example, they could have added something similar to "sudo" in Linux, so you don't need to know how to use terminal commands. This OS also doesn't support many of the newer networking protocols like IPv6, etc. Because it's based off Solaris, there are some legacy issues that can be difficult to deal with at times. If you're looking for an open source OS that is easy for users who are not technical to setup and manage, this is one to check out. I'm solving problems by giving my clients their own server environments. They can then access.
