The Best Grande Lava Lamps (and Hard to Find)

I'm digging through lava lamps and there's a 27-inch lamp on my desk at work. as recommended for the lightbulb. Nothing found! I've tried halogens - knowing they glow I started with 75 watts and then went up. I'm crazy, I did a timing comparison of lightbulbs in aluminum foil wrapped reflectors in my garage (my meat thermometer read 425). A 75 W halogen lamp brought nothing. The 100w halogen bulb formed a large orange ball at the bottom but didn't move. The 150w halogen bulbs (double body glass) got enough heat to get things going but burned out within two months. Also, I had to reconnect the lightbulb with 14 gauge wire as it was drawing too much current. It's not the halogens' fault - they're dome lights - they can't concentrate the heat they generate to get your lava moving. . They are closed inside so they will explode over time. You need an incandescent lamp with a reflector next to the lamp. base and pushes all that 100 watts of warmth and beauty right into your lava. After 6 months my old Revain "100 Watt Filament Spotlight" finally found THIS one! I think there are enough Lava Lamp Grande enthusiasts out there to fix the search engine :) Put in a new bulb this morning. She works like a champ: more agile and fascinating than ever, and she "wakes up" (from Ridley Scott's firstborn alien to an adorable microcosm) an hour earlier than before. This is what I was looking for and probably what you need for your big ol' lava. Love her.
