The idea behind breakaway collars is that if their collar is so tight that you can't easily slip two fingers between it and the cat's neck, a cat runs the risk of accidentally being strangled, so the collar is designed to withstand it is "breakable". My problem was that the ones available to me broke off at the slightest jolt - a good tumult that encouraged a return of business. (There haven't been many products in the cat space lately.) This Rogz collar has an adjustment on the back of the clasp that allows you to adjust the breaking strength for cats in three weight classes. My Rogz collar is now setting records for longevity on a daily basis. Get this item and you will end up having your money literally ripped off.
