Review on Syba SD PEX40054 Port SATA Hyper by Jason Vigen

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great card, even a little bigger than I need

I recently upgraded to this card instead of a Crest 2 Port SATA III PCI-Express x1 IO card (SY-PEX40039). I knew my SSD might be faster than the other card, and the SATA connections on the other card sucked. I bought this device to solve both problems. I haven't had it very long so can't speak to a connector issue (although it uses clips) but I can say the speed increase is phenomenal. With my OCZ Agility 3 I achieve read and write speeds of over 500 MB/s (see attached image). The old card gave me less than 350 MB/s writing and about 400 MB/s reading ). Just make sure you have a x4 (or higher) PCI-E 2.0 slot available and make sure your SSD can run fast enough to be worthwhile. This card is about three times the price of IO Crest (although not as expensive). ADVANTAGES: Built-in hybrid drive creation utility (SSD + HDD). This is what they mean by "Hyperduo": -Built-in utility to create RAID 0,1,1+0 -Disk management via dedicated screen during boot or from Windows -Good choice of connectors: vertical SATA (clamped), horizontal SATA , eSATA - Worked right out of the box. Plugged it in and it worked great on the first boot. (My drives were already set up as IDE instead of AHCI or RAID) CONS: - The jumper configuration is a bit strange - The metal slot cover is slightly warped (make sure you tape the end of the motherboard first)

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Unbelievable price
