Headphones always on, but last for many months

Used very well for a few months but broke today and now hangs constantly. When I put new batteries in, it turns back on immediately. Even got stuck at the AM station forever. None of the switches work, including the LOCK slider. It happened during a heavy thunderstorm. This is the fourth in 10 years and I've just ordered another one because digital AM/FM headphones are a real rarity in physical stores, even online. So to turn it off I have to remove the batteries or plug the audio cable into the headphones.
