Review on Chicago Leather Lined Roller Skate by Loren Schmidt

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Wanted to give 5 stars - 4 for missing lock washer

Up front - I feel guilty deducting a star because skates are exceptional value for money (low price, high quality) but the toe box of the right foot There were no shims and the locking washer dug deep into the soft aluminum dolly - it was very difficult to find a shim big enough under the toe to stop the grinding (washer on the other Boots). Good: The 10.5" extra wide foot fits very well in an 11" narrow shoe - the shoe stretches well, is very comfortable and is of very good quality (the upper of the shoe alone is worth the full price of the skate) . Aluminum plates/charge bolts are very useful. Head: As mentioned, replace the bearings with something like Bones Super Reds bearings, a set of 8 packs (2 x 8 pack) and wheels like new! Replacement Riedell Sonar Zen Quad Outdoor Skateboard Wheels, 8 pcs. packed up! (Red) (Ideal for outdoor use - depends on surface). When you do, you triple the value, drivability and comfort. The aluminum plate/truck feels very heavy (I would change it if I had the money) but is very solid and has a good amount of feed/rotation for a fat 50 year old man. Another "mech" is the included thin punch bolt maintenance tool - can be very handy, but you'll bend it if you try to get the footrests to vibrate. Creepy: The screws have to be tightened! (As already mentioned). Check twice on the first ride and every time thereafter. The stops have no set screws so they can fall off - make sure the stop bolts are tightened with something like Channellock 8SWCB Slim Jaw Adjustable Wrench, WideAzz Jaw Opening 1-1/2" and Code Blue Grip for comfort, 8" note are: You can make those cheap skates sharper by replacing the toe braces with something like the Bionic XS Roller Skate Derby's toe braces.

Pros
  • Trial period for one year
Cons
