Used to power my freezer during power outages

I live in an area that gets hurricanes from time to time and can leave us without power for a week or more. I didn't have a gas generator to keep my freezer running so we lost all our frozen food. So I started researching solar energy to understand what it takes to do what I need. I used a watt meter to determine how much electricity my freezer was using. I've been told if I buy an inverter, buy more than you need so you have room to expand without having to buy another one. I found this one and it was a great price. So I bought one of these: a 12V 100Ah LifePo4 battery, 4 x 100W (400W) solar panels and a 40A MPPT charge controller. I was able to successfully power my small chest freezer 24/7 for a full week. I could probably run the test for a month and it would still work fine. I don't currently have any panels installed and this is not a permanent install. Basically, it's just an emergency backup system for now. Anyway, this is actually my second. I use both well a bit and they both work great. I had no problems. The fan kicks on when needed, but is not noisy at all to me.

Pros
  • LED display and remote control
Cons
  • Almost everything included
