My two kittens love this scratching post. money well spent. It's more than a scratching post; this is a kitten house - a fortress - an amusement park - the starting point of the attack! It came with three fluffy rat/bird hybrids attached with elastic strings. My kittens pulled out all three on the first day. Maybe they could have been better protected, but I see my kittens running around so madly while I was at work that in their madness they killed the creatures. We still have them and when I find them I throw them on the scratching post where they are immediately attacked again and dragged away. My kittens climb onto the back of the scratching post, through the (small) window of the largest box from above, sleep on different platforms, play and fight all over this thing. It wobbles a bit while being put through Kitty Crossfit and I think I'll have to retighten the screws at some point, but whatever. They love it and it (mostly) keeps them away from my curtains and scratches under my bed. In terms of assembly, my 11 year old son pretty much put it together by himself. It was half finished and confused and a few parts out of place before my darling walked in and had him disassemble it and sort the parts according to the instructions in the pictures including measuring the posts. It was then successfully assembled in a very short time. If your cat squints, sprinkle catnip on it. If you have hardwood floors, stick some felt pads on the underside to prevent the ends of the screws from scratching the floor.
