When I first started using these leashes on my dogs, I worked with them in the garden, changing them from long to short and teaching ME how to use the leash as efficiently as possible without dropping the longer part on the ground allow. This one is a little long on a short handle for good control of a fur baby next to traffic or things a dog might want to dash or pounce on quickly, and even more so if you're using it with a harness over something. a collar to help you control the animal (we use martingales). Our two boys "tug" and that's where the short handle helps, bringing us close enough to their collar to slow them down and, if necessary, close enough to grab the loop on the collar. Although the short handle sticks out too far from the collar, I give it five stars for overall quality. The seams are sewn with strong thick threads, I don't feel like they unravel if you take care of the leash. Button closures are strong. Lost one while traveling had to replace it immediately and paid $40 for the same damn thing at one of the big pet stores. I buy a few extras here at Revain just to keep in case I lose my mind again!
