Review on Stonehenge Aqua Heavy Watercolor Block 300lb, 12x16 Inch, Cold Press, White, Pack of 10 Sheets by Heather Shaw

No more peaks and valleys!

I bought this 300lb 100% cotton paper a few weeks ago but was afraid to use it. Then I got the commission and pulled it out. This is the first time I've used 300 lb paper. What a dream! I'm sold! Not only did the thickness of the paper give me more wiggle room because it dries slower, but it also didn't warp too much when I drew. No more peaks and valleys to paint around or wipe water every few seconds. I painted the shell with a few wet strokes all over the drawing and while there was some slight curves around the edges it wasn't enough for the water to pool anywhere. I'm going to flatten the paper like I always do: dampen the back; clamp it between the cardboard; stack heavy books in two piles side by side; and let it dry for a few hours. Works like a charm, even on 90lb paper, so 300lb paper should flatten out just fine. I found the paper itself comparable to sheets. I think I still like the bows a bit more (perhaps out of familiarity?), but they're pretty damn close in performance. And since this paper is a bit cheaper, I will definitely buy more in the future.
