Review on INTELLITEC 0100055000 Battery Disconnect Relay by Bobby Valadez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I wish it was smaller but it works great

Works as it should. I use it to disconnect the battery on my motorcycle to avoid parasitic discharges. I have an FZ09 with a 2 camera DVR and a few other accessories and I use a small SC1 anti-gravity battery so I have no capacity for parasitic discharges of any kind. I feel a lot better using this momentary latching relay as a battery isolator. instead of permanently excited electromagnetically. I originally went with the latter, but switched to the former because I realized that if the other one dies while riding, I'll lose all power and my bike will die. It's bad if you're driving 70 mph on the freeway or 140+ mph on the freeway. That being said, if it fails it stays either on or off rather than tipping over when I'm driving, a plus as it only needs an instant impulse to flip. could use a secondary installation of 2x9 volt batteries in series to power it. A 9 volt will work, but once the small capacitance is gone there isn't enough voltage to flip it. 2 weighs only one gram more and gives me more security. Hooking it up was a little tricky, I wanted to have a single button that I could alternatively press but I couldn't get it to work so I switched to instant on/off. The switch is tucked away in a spot that couldn't be accidentally hit, and if it were, it would most likely be in the on direction (again, you don't want to lose power while driving). The only downside is that it's bigger than the other option and takes up property that I want to use for other purposes

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • A bit torn
