Review on Atlantic Oskar Adjustable Media Cabinet by Justin Hines

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great item and currently difficult to find locally. Great for DVD. The instructions have been changed!

This is a sign of the times when all my local stores sell media (games and movies) but almost no memory modules are available. I visited five local shops and left empty handed. First, this is not Amish handcrafted furniture. Get over it. This is pressed plywood with locking rollers and dowels. The color of espresso is more black than brown. It's easy to assemble. You will need a screwdriver and a hammer. You could probably use an electric screwdriver or drill if you're careful. Again, this is not solid wood. I assembled it a little differently than the instructions and that might save you a little disappointment. This block basically consists of three sections that you twist together. You don't get long boards for your parties. The bottom board is slightly longer to give you some stability. That's the fun part: the instructions require you to assemble all the boards and then nail them to the back of the veneered panel. The last board will stick out and create an odd surface for nailing in the last step. I assembled all the boards down to the last one, flipped it over, nailed the support sections (starting at the top), then screwed the bottom board, and finally drove the last two nails into the bottom board. This made assembly much easier. I was arguing about five stars because of what I mentioned earlier: it's basically three sections. Because of this, you really can't change the height of DVD or Blu-ray/video game shelves too much. Don't get me wrong, the published media figures are correct. I put about 22 video games on a shelf with the shelves in the middle of the section (22x6 = 132). If they changed it into two sections that you twist together, you would use more shelves, change the height of the shelf space, and store more in one block. I understand why they did it that way but don't believe the pictures they show. If you use this for movies and video games you will only get six shelves not eight as shown in the picture. I took a closer look at the picture and they have CD shelves that are much smaller in height.

Pros
  • EXTRA STABILITY: The wide base of the Summit bookshelf measures 13" W x 8.5" D. Also includes a wall anchor for added stability. It can be used on carpets and wooden floors.
Cons
  • Crumpled
