Good gear, wrong material

Too expensive for a plastic gear. Okay, here's a design flaw/mistake Lexus made in the steering column. First they used a metal worm gear against a plastic big gear in a match. The metal worm will eat into the nylon plastic prongs over time causing this error. It was a silly combination at first as I am a former satellite dish installer in the early 80's and saw this horizon to horizon. Manufacturing motorized mounts did this to reduce costs and make it easier for them, what they had to do was machined or forged steel impregnated with gear oil, or bronze or zinc plated to prevent corrosion, or even hardened stainless steel The plastic construction is good in terms of economy and comfort, it just leads to steering failure. tilt again
