Review on Canon EF Full Frame Auto Focus Lens - Samyang 14mm F2.8 AF Wide Angle Lens by Kristen Carter

I love its extreme look

I bought this lens mainly for my mirrorless Canon EOR R. Before that I had a 14mm manual focus Samyang lens which I really like like like. Samyang, a Korean company known for its cheap but high-quality manual focus lenses, started making autofocus lenses in 2016. Samyang AF 14mm f2.8 for Canon EF mount is different from its Canon RF mount version. The later (December 2018) RF mount version is optically identical to the Sony FE mount mirrorless version from 2016. This Canon EF mount version is actually a newer design that is also available with the Nikon F mount. The lens is well built and looks solid. Its convex front element eliminates the need for a screw-in filter. It comes with a deep lens cap that closes tightly by friction. The metal rear bracket is padded to protect against the elements. I used a Canon EF-RF adapter to mount it on my EOS R. The autofocus is pretty fast, maybe a bit slower than the Canon L lens. Unlike the Canon L lens, its motor is not silent. When my camera is at eye level I can definitely hear it. But it's not as distracting as a mechanical shutter. The situation is different when recording videos with the built-in microphone. As with all ultra wide-angle lenses, the optical quality cannot be compared to prime and shorter focal length lenses. However, it outperforms its iconic manual-focus sibling, especially in the corners. I will update this review after taking it on a trip.
